World Vision Group Training

The alarm sounded at 6AM. SNOOZE. The alarm sounded again 9 minutes later. I thought "no way no how am I waking up this early on a Saturday to go run 5 miles." I was dressed and ready by 6:35AM. After a very light breakfast and some Zig Ziglar podcast in the car I arrived in Coconut Grove and searched for parking.

When I arrived at the Team World Vision meeting site at Kennedy Park, I found that all but two people had already left. I took off down the path to catch up to my fellow orange-clad long distance runner's. The grove is a fantastic place to run. There were hundreds of people including cyclists out there. From time to time you can catch a glimpse of the ocean as you keep tacking on the mileage. With no music, no watch, and no water, I began observing everyone around me to keep me distracted. People had their hydration belts, iPods, and water bottles equipped like we were doing a tactical insertion into hostile territory.

After 23 minutes I made contact with other World Vision runner's. After requesting how many minutes into the run they were, I decided to run a little further. All told it came out to 4 miles, a little less than I was shooting for.

It was a fun time getting to meet some teammates and seeing friends from my old church. I look forward to next week's training and putting some more wear and tear on my Brooks!
