Rule of Fitness #1 Variety
At a recent fitness expo at FIU Tony Horton shared his 11 Rules of Fitness. The first is variety.
Variety helps prevent boredom and muscle plateauing. Be sure to target all areas of exercise in your routines. This includes: calisthenics, weights, yoga, sports, cardio, and core routines. Not only will this help you achieve a well-rounded body, but prevent injury from working out any one area too hard or too frequently. The beauty of many Beachbody programs is that they target everything leading to a fit more flexible you without risking hurting one part of your body.
Try variety within the same day. Perform cardio for 15 minutes before your weight training. Jump rope and a punching bag, a run, ultimate frisbee, or INSANITY's pure cardio. Then do your weight routine. You might be a little tired, but you will still have enough energy to maximize your resistance training and you will be burning calories for hours after your workout is complete.
Be curious and try new things. You may discover a passion for soccer you never knew you had ;)

P90X & INSANITY The Difference and Why it Matters
Hi,
As a Beachbody enthusiast I own both these fitness products and have been doing them for some time. I will be a P90X grad in 12 days and have performed about 15 sessions worth of INSANITY to boot. But as people's quest for physical prowess and a coveted six-pack goes on, the question often asked is "Which is better?"
A better question to ask is "Which program is better for me". Both sets of DVDs are fantastic and just by pushing play for a few months you will be in the best shape of your life. Before starting any fitness program you should assess your goals and current level of fitness. In the following paragraphs I will describe each program and the kind of people each is better suited for.
The program that launched Beachbody into fitness preminence you might say. P90X is 90-day extreme home fitness program designed to transform your body gracefully while incorporating multidisciplinary exercise including: Yoga, martial arts, weight training, jump training, and some good old fashioned cardio. This program is methodical, requiring you to purchase some minimal equipment and track your progress through workout sheets, a heart rate monitor, and before and after pictures. P90X was very well thought out. From the order of the exercises to the scheduling of the recovery week. If done correctly you will achieve great results; building muscle while losing fat and increasing flexibility.
Tony Horton - The man behind the program. Very motivating, hilarious, and unbelievably fit. If Beachbody were the Jedi Council, Tony would be Yoda. I think he is solely responsible for so many people sticking with the program. Do your best and... forget the rest!
Dig deeper! Not for the light at heart, INSANITY is a 60 day sweat inducing heart pounding crazy cardio experience. Their disclaimers about fainting, throwing up, and getting dizzy are repeated over and over so you know you are in for it when you press play. With that said, this program can be followed to melt off fat at an alarming rate. Prepare to eat more than ever and still find yourself losing 2-4lbs/week if done right. I enjoy the count down timer system they employ on the bottom of the screen. It lets you know how much time remains in each exercise, circuit, and entire workout respectively. The moves are varied and I have never found myself bored. The routines are shorter than P90X and require no equipment, lending itself to people a little more pressed for time or money. Many people have began incorporating select INSANITY DVDs into their P90X to maximize the calorie burn.
I recommend this program for someone who wants to lose fat fast, gain endurance, and has a high level of commitment 'cause this thing is tough.
Shaun T - The man behind the program. A track athlete in his younger days, he is now a Beachbody trainer extraordinaire. Lots of motivation, fast paced, and good form are what I like about him. I also appreciate that even he takes a rest from time to time. Gives me hope when I cannot complete the full 30 seconds - 1 minute of an exercise.
Both these products and more are available on my coach site.
